　Venue：Lecture Hall, 7F, Konan University Port Island Campus

　On Friday, August 30, 2024, “FIBER Future College 113” was held at Konan University’s Port Island Campus.

　This lecture series is co-sponsored by the Japan Society for Nucleic Acid Chemistry and provides a platform for leading researchers in the field of nucleic acid chemistry to present their latest research findings.

【Lecture１】9:40 –
　Lecture title：Exploration of tetrahelical DNA structures and ligands intercalation
　Lecturer : Prof. Janez Plavec （Slovenian NMR Centre at the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia）

　 Professor Plavec presented on how the selectivity of the DNA, which does not bind to normal double-helix DNA but can recognize only G4 structures with high precision, suggests that this could lead to new therapeutic strategies.

【Lecture２】10:25 –
　Lecture title：Genome-wide mapping of G-quadruplexes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome: new avenues for drug discovery
　Lecturer：Prof. Sara N. Richter（Department Molecular Medicine University of Padobe, Itary）

　Professor Richter demonstrated the potential to visualize the unique structure of DNA, pinpoint its target, and develop anti-cancer drugs with fewer side effects.

　This lecture provided a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of next-generation drug discovery that targets the shape (structure) of the genome itself to stop the proliferation of pathogens and cancers, and its content will greatly contribute to future research activities.

【Event  details】

We will have “FIBER FUTURE COLLEGE” on 30th August 2024. We Invite Prof. Janez Plavec from Slovenian NMR centre. He is a world leader of the structural analysis of non-canoincal nucleic acids. We also Invite  Prof. Sara N. Richter from University of Padova, Italy. Her research target is non-canonical nucleic acid secondary structures in human biology and diseases.

*All presentations will be given in English.
