On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the “Science Live Ticket Series Part 85・International Exchange Seminar on Science and Culture” was held at Konan University’s Port Island Campus.
This program is an international exchange seminar that invites leading graduate students and researchers from overseas to introduce cutting-edge life science research (nucleic acid chemistry research) along with the cultural backgrounds of their respective countries.

Lecture Title：Bioconjugation Click Chemistry for Covalent Modification of Alginate
Lecturer：Ms. Willough Sloan（Carnegie Mellon University）
Ms. Sloan presented cutting-edge chemical technologies that are expected to have applications in the fields of medical engineering and biomaterials.
15:50 –
Lecture Title：A Panoramic View of Indian Cultural Diversity
Lecturer：Prof. Sudipta Bhowmik（Mahatma Gandhi Medical Advanced Research Institute(MGMARI), SBV University
Professor Bhowmik introduced the rich cultural background and allure of India, a country with a diverse population, multiple languages, and multiple religions.
16:10 – Culture Exchange
Time was set aside for participants and instructors to communicate directly and deepen their understanding of science and each other’s cultures.
This lecture provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the chemical technology for intelligently bonding alginate, while simultaneously deepening our understanding of the importance of cultural connections in strengthening global human relationships. The content will greatly contribute to future research activities.

Researchers will provide accessible explanations of their home countries’ cultures and their latest research. Participation is free of charge. We encourage you to join us. Please note that the presentations will be given in English.
We look forward to the participation of not only university and corporate researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students, but also local residents with an interest in science.
